Cambodia Hosts International Scientific Symposium on Emerging Diseases

The International Scientific Symposium on Emerging Diseases was opened here by Minister of Health Mam Bunheng. The two-day event gathered Cambodian and regional researchers as well as French and international experts. Many prominent French research institutions and foundations, and the French Nobel Prize for Medicine, Barré-Sinoussi also joined the symposium.

Prof. Vincent Deubel, Director of the Institut Pasteur of Cambodia said that medical research and cooperation between local, regional and international experts will bring about new solutions to combat and prevent effectively the spread of infectious diseases to Cambodia as well as to other countries in the region. The Institut Pasteur of Cambodia which currently hosts more than 100 Cambodian and French researchers is recognized as a high-level scientific reference center on communicable infectious diseases (encephalitis, dengue, chikungunya, malaria) at both national and regional levels.
