Minister of Women’s Affairs Ing Kantha Phavi affirmed that the number of women in politics and decision-making positions has seen a remarkable increase. She said the number of women as secretaries of state rose from 16 in 2008 to 38 in 2013, and as undersecretaries of state from 33 to 48; 24 women were appointed as municipal/provincial deputy governors in 2009, while the number of women elected to be commune/Sangkat councilors increased from 1,056 in 2002 to 2,038 in 2012.
