Direct Cassava Export to China for the First Time

5 January 2015

For the first time, Chinese companies are buying cassava directly from Cambodia and envisioning larger quality with better price for local farmers.

China’s Unison cargo ship recently docked at Sihanouk province’s port of Cambodia to load 7,500 tons of cassava. Big cassava producer provinces for this order of China are Kampong Speu, Kampong Thom, Siem Reap, Battambang and Pursat. A Chinese company has also invested in growing the crops in 80,000 hectares of land in Cambodia. The Chinese companies are looking for solution for cheap cassava transport from different provinces to the port so that they can increase the price of the crops for the Cambodian farmers.
