Data drive revenue growth for Smart

Malaysia-based Axiata announced yesterday that its Cambodian operator Smart had increased its data user base by 135%, taking its data subscriber base to 1.8 million and feeding Cambodian consumers’ insatiable appetite for social media sites. Smart increased its revenue in 2014 to 588 million ringgit ($163 million), up 48.4% from 2013 when revenue was 396 million ringgit ($109.7 million). Revenue was primarily driven by data services, with voice services contributing to 19% of the growth.

Over 510,000 Enterprises Registered in Cambodia

Cambodia has in total 513,759 establishments except street businesses, up 10.9% as compared with 2011, and the number of establishments per 1,000 persons is 33.8.

The biggest province in terms of the number of establishments was Phnom Penh with 97,200 establishments or 18.9% of the total number, followed by Kampong Cham (54,231 or 10.6%), Kandal (38,679 or 7.5%), Siem Reap (37,622 or 7.3%), and Takeo (32,780 or 6.4%) and five provinces are located in the plain areas or on the lakeside of Tonle Sap Lake, occupying more than 50%.

Preah Sihanouk International Airport Attracts Two Weekly Charters Flights from China

After starting its charter flights from Incheon to Sihanouk Ville in July 2014, Siem Reap-based Sky Angkor Airlines started twice weekly charters from Hangzhou, largest city of Zhejiang Province in Eastern China. The flight was organized by Siem Reap-based PSD Travel and its Zhejiang-based partner, Zhejiang Everbright Sunshine International Travel Co., Ltd. Its maiden flight landed in Sihanouk International Airport at 21:45 with 174 Chinese passengers onboard Airbus A320 on 22 January 2015.
