Sugar cane harvesters find their sweet spot

The expansion of sugarcane cultivation in Cambodia is driving strong demand for mechanical cane harvesters, with sales expected to spike this year on hotter temperatures and with large-scale projects coming online. The opportunities for new sales have emerged in northern Cambodia, where a massive sugar mill is capable of processing 20,000 tons of sugarcane a day.

Beijing Urban Construction Group Wishes to Invest in Inland Water Transport

Beijing Urban Construction Group Co., Ltd., a Chinese infrastructure developer, is interested in developing an infrastructure project focusing on inland water transport. The Chinese delegation sought collaboration and support from Cambodia Ministry of Public Works and Transport also want to move their project forward.

India To Invest US$1 Billion in Cambodia in Next Five Years

Indian investors have started to invest some US$100 million in real estate and hotel sectors in Cambodia this year, and they are expected to invest up to US$1 billion in other sectors in the next five years. Cambodia and India have been strengthening their educational and economic ties, and India has provided scholarships to many Cambodian students and a lot of Indian investors have been doing business in the Kingdom.

Treaty aims to attract, secure Hungarian FDI

A bilateral investment agreement between Cambodia and Hungary will be sent to the National Assembly floor this week after it gained approval from the Council of Ministers on Friday. The agreement is aimed at attracting foreign direct investment from Hungary, while protecting the European Union member state from any negative investment impact.

Trademark protection deemed vital for innovation

Sathapana Shifts from MFI to Commercial Bank

Sathapana Microfinance Plc., the third largest MFI in Cambodia, has officially transformed itself into a commercial bank with total capital of $120 million, a move in line with Japanese-owned Maruhan Japan Bank acquiring a 95.1% stake in 2012. As 2015, there were 36 commercial banks in Cambodia, 11 specialized banks, eight bank representative offices, 49 microfinance institutions, 42 rural credit operators and eight financial leasing firms.

After receiving the approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission of Cambodia (SECC), the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Plc. launched here yesterday its initial public offering (IPO) at the Cambodian Stock Exchange (CSX). Under this procedure, Phnom Penh SEZ Plc. will list in the CSX for trading next June.

Rice exports for the first quarter of the year jumped 8.5% for the same period last year, but in March the figure dropped 14.5% in the face of competition from Thailand, Vietnam and India and a shortage of capital for buyers to pay growers. Major markets for Cambodian rice include the European Union, China, Malaysia and Britain.
