Kampong Speu Palm Sugar Production To Increase to 300 Tons

Kampong Speu palm sugar production is expected to reach 300 tons in the 2015-2016 period, a double increase from previous year, in response to the growing demand for palm sugar. It has 142 families as members in 15 villages of Samrong Torng and Oudong districts with the use of over 3,000 palm trees. It is exported to France, Japan, the United States, China, South Korea and Thailand.

The loan disbursement of the Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) has increased to some US$2,436 million in the first six months of 2015, up 20%. And by June 2015, the 39 MFIs and 6 financial service provision non-governmental organizations received a total of US$1,123 million as deposit, up 25% from the previous year.

Cambodia’s Economic Situation on Positive Trend This Year

Cambodia’s Senior Minister and Minister of Commerce has recently affirmed that the country’s economic situation this year is on the positive trend. GDP per capita is projected to be at US$1,220 in 2015. The international reserves in 2014 were some US$4.4 billion and are expected to reach US$5.1 billion by the end of 2015.

Gov’t to Finish Northern Rail Line in 2016

The government has set aside some $33 million to finish rebuilding Cambodia’s northern rail line by late next year. The railway hopes to start in September 2015, with trains running between Phnom Penh and Poipet by 2017. For Phnom Penh to Sihanouk Ville, it already started running the full length of the 266-km in December 2012.

KSMA To Export Some 300 Tons of Mangoes Per Month to Neighboring Countries

Kampong Speu Mango Association (KSMA) will export some 300 tons of mangoes to Vietnam and Thailand monthly, from October 2015 to May 2016. Cambodia taps Yoga

Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism will support Yoga classes at tourist destinations to enhance the tourist experience in the country. It is being established in the capital Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and at resorts particularly to cater to tourists. It gained a supporting vote from 175 nations, the highest number ever for a resolution in the 193-member UN General Assembly.

Fisheries production rises 2.4% in latest year

Cambodia's fisheries production rose to 745,255 tons in 2014, up 2.4% from 728,000 a year earlier. The increase reflected a surge in aquaculture production and a small increase in marine fisheries output which together offset a decline in production from freshwater fisheries. The output from aquaculture jumped to 120,000 tons, up from 90 tons a year earlier.

A Japanese company, A2A Town (Cambodia), has submitted a request to the Cambodian Ministry of Environment to establish helicopter flights from Phnom Penh to Preah Soramrit Kossamak Kirirom National Park in Kampong Speu province. The company invested around USD500 million with its Cambodian development partner.

Cambodia enjoys tourism growth

Cambodia’s tourist arrivals registered an increase of 8.6% in April. The country attracted 361,139 trips compared to 332,690 during the same month last year. Vietnam led the field with 89,907 visits up 14.2%. Other markets in the top five were: China (54,800; +30.9%); South Korea (27,746; +8.6%); Thailand (24,397; +31.7%); and Laos (22,584; -4.2%).
