Norway To Invest US$24 Million in Marine Aquaculture in Preah Sihanouk Province

Vitamar A.S. Company of Norway is planning to invest US$24 million for its 8-year large-scale marine fish farm in Cambodia’s Preah Sihanouk province. The investment project was made known here last Friday from 2016 to 2023. The investment project is expected to create direct jobs for some 200 aquaculture officials and local people.

Number of Foreign Arrivals Up 2.6% in Q1

In the first quarter of this year, the number of foreign visitors to Cambodia reached some 1.34 million, up only 2.6% from 1.30 million in the same period last year. The Vietnamese remained at the top of foreign tourists to Cambodia, followed by the Chinese, Koreans, Thais, Americans, Laotians and Japanese.

Mangoes bound for European market

Mong Reththy Group, the largest agro-industrial company in Cambodia, has sent 13 shipments of mangoes to Europe this year totalling 54 tons. It is not the first time that Cambodia has exported these [mangoes] to Europe. “Our mangoes are sent to Thailand and Vietnam to be checked for phytosanitary approval before being shipped to Europe.”

Port operator reports earnings up by 49%

Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) posted more than 14% growth in revenue last year, while earnings soared by 49%.

PPAP operates the capital’s river port, which is Cambodia’s second-largest port by throughput. Feeding the Kingdom’s construction boom, 60% of imports were building materials, while exports were dominated by garments at 52%, with rice at 38%.

Investment Value in Cambodia’s Construction Sector Reaches US$1,647 Million in Q1

During the first three months of 2016, Cambodia has attracted some 473 investment projects in the construction sector worth in total US$1,647 million, showing an increase of 257.51% compared to last year. It is thanks to the country’s high economic growth, political and social stability, open-skies policy, and favorable conditions for investors.

Chinese Company Invests US$250 Million in Condominium Construction in Cambodia

The China-based J & L Property Development Co., Ltd. has invested US$250 million in Cambodia to construct a skyscraper condominium called SKY Tree in Sangkat Tuol Sangkae, Russey Keo district, Phnom Penh. The company’s decision to invest in Cambodia by the country’s political stability and strong economic growth, which makes Cambodia further develop in the next 10 years. The construction of SKY Tree has started since early this year and is expected to complete in 2019.

Stronger yen sees return of Japanese investment

A stronger Japanese yen is rekindling investor interest in Cambodia and pushing Japanese firms to establish or expand their presence in the Kingdom. Some 262 new Japanese firms launched operations in Cambodia during the first three months of the year, a 40% increase over the same period in 2015. The investments included factories, construction, restaurants and consultancy services.
