Cambodia’s Ministry of Health has recently received an award for its
anti-tuberculosis (TB) efforts from the United States Agency for International
Development (USAID).
According to Director of National Center for Tuberculosis and Leprosy
Control (CENAT), thanks to the ministry’s tireless efforts and support from
different donors over the past ten years, Cambodia has succeeded in achieving
the Millennium Development Goal on reducing the TB morbidity and mortality
rate.
The TB mortality rate dropped from 157 to 63 cases per 100,000 people,
while its prevalence rate decreased from 1,670 cases in 1990 to only 764 cases
in 2012 among 100,000 people.
