The Cambodian Mine Action
Center (CMAC) held a discussion last week with Idenmitsu of Japan on
contraction farming project after the company reached a Memorandum of
Understanding on Biomass Development Project in Cambodia with the Ministry of
Agriculture in 2012.
The contraction framing
project will cover some 13,000 hectares of landmine-cleared area in Battambang
province’s Phnom Preuk district at the total cost of some US$70 million. The
project will be implemented directly with local farmers to plant cassava and
construct a bio-fuel factory. Through this project, local farmers will get
experience and technical knowledge as well as many other benefits.
