Electricity is a
prioritized sector set forth by the government in its strategic policy, of
which all villages in Cambodia will have access to enough electricity by 2020. Currently,
some 7,000 villages or 51% of all villages across the country have already had
access to the electricity.
Cambodia’s electricity
sector saw a remarkable development in 2013 in terms of both electricity
sources and national electricity grid. The total electricity consumption in
Cambodia increased by 22% from 3,527 million kilowatt-hours in 2012 to 4,297 million
kilowatts-hours in 2013, while the electricity source potential reached 1,370
megawatts last year, up 66.70% from 822 megawatts a year earlier. Cambodia is
expected to have enough electricity sources from 2014 to 2017.
