Phnom Penh city should have had public train service in addition to bus service
to meet the challenge of population and vehicle growth in the capital.
Phnom Penh
city has cooperated with JICA to design the Urban Transport Master Plan in
Phnom Penh to solve traffic congestion problem in the capital city. JICA
requested for the master plan to be decided as soon as possible at the end of
this year to enable its project to be carried out next year. Phnom Penh
Municipal Governor agreed with the master plan, which will provide the benefits
to the citizens and reduce the traffic jams in the city, but asking for being
discussed in detail with Cambodian expertise officials before being submitted
to the cabinet ministers for approval in November. The first line costs US$759
million, the second values US$645 million, and the third US$586 million.
