Only Two Political Parties To Contest in the Council Election in Phnom Penh

In Phnom Penh capital city, only two political parties – the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) – have been registered to compete against each other in the upcoming Capital/Provincial, Municipal/District/Khan Council Election of 2nd mandate.

The Capital/Provincial, Municipal/District/Khan Council Election is a non-universal suffrage only being open to the current 11,459 Commune/Sangkat council members to be held on 18 May 2014. Five political parties including CPP, CNRP, FUNCINPEC, League for Democracy Party, and Democratic Republic Party have been registered for this forthcoming local election.
