The International Labor Organization’s Better Factories Cambodia (BFC) program said the situation of factories in Cambodia is better.

Three of the twelve factories in the Low Compliance group made 33 verifiable improvements and, as a result, moved off the Low Compliance list and One third of the 92 factories included in the ‘Critical Issues’ list made improvements on 21 basic legal requirements in anticipation of their inclusion in the report. The total number of Critical Issues violations in this group of factories fell from 134 to 87 between April and June 2014 a 35% improvement.

Most of the factories in Cambodia are textile, garment and footwear industry. Last year those factories contributed US$5 billion to total export and employed more than 620,000 workers who received over US$1 billion annually in wage and salaries.
