Phnom Penh Municipality Rejects CNRP’s Statement

1 April 2014

Phnom Penh Municipality rejected the main opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP)’s statement over an illegal gathering at the Freedom Park yesterday. According to a press release of the Phnom Penh Municipality, CNRP issued on March 31 a statement accusing the competent authorities of using violence in the crackdown on people’s gathering led by Beehive Radio Director to demand for radio and TV frequencies from the Ministry of Information.

The Phnom Penh Municipality expressed its regret over yesterday’s clash between the protesters and authorities who were deployed to maintain security, safety and public order, the clash which was incited by the CNRP and some civil society organizations.

Some 200 people gathered at the garden and bridge near the Freedom Park in order to march to the Ministry of Information without permission from the Phnom Penh Municipality which caused serious traffic congestion on Preah Norodom Blvd.
