4 April 2014

The number of road fatalities in Cambodia rose to 576 in the first three months of the year, up from 3% over the same period last year. 1,273 cases of road accidents were reported during the January-March period, up 10% from 1,159 in the preceding period last year. The high accident rate is attributed to over speeding, drunk driving and violations of traffic law. Cambodia currently has some 410,000 registered cars, trucks and buses, and two million registered motorcycles. Traffic accidents claimed 1,950 lives in the country last year. The ministry estimated accidents cost Cambodia about US$300 million in losses every year.
