UK Seeks More Comprehension about Cambodia’s Political Situation

2 April 2014

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok An, Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, received on Monday newly-appointed UK’s Ambassador to Cambodia William Longhurst. In the meeting, UK diplomat sought more comprehension about political situation in Cambodia, the priorities of the government’s reform program in 2014-2015.

In response, Sok An said the post-election issue is the plan of the main opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) to create election irregularities. Before the election, CNRP had announced to join the election, but not to accept the election results and this is a strategy to overthrow the government born from the majority of people’s will and to provoke social instability and chaos.

Concerning the priorities of the reform program in 2014-2015, Sok An said the government had created an effective and qualified democratic infrastructure, and delegated power from national to grassroots administration. He also informed that the government’s public forums with local people to solve their requests and needs and the government’s commitment to boosting the harmonization between local people and civil servants as real service providers; the judicial, public service reform, and to combating corruption in all forms.
