Chinese airline gains AOC

10 October 2014

The State Secretariat of Civil Aviation granted an aircraft operation certificate to the startup airline Bassaka Air earlier this week.

Bassaka Air is a partnership with the travel agency China International Travel Services and local investors. It plans to fly between Phnom Penh and China using Airbus A320s. The SSCA spokesman said there are many Chinese businesses in Cambodia that need convenient flights between the two countries. China is one of the strongest markets for Cambodia’s tourism. During January to July this year, 318,245 Chinese travelled to the country, an increase of 19.0% from 267,506 during the same period last year. Cambodia expects to welcome 500,000 Chinese visitors this year and possibly achieve the 1.5 million mark by 2020.
