29 April 2014

The French Agency for Development (AFD) and other development partners will help improve the access to clean water and electricity services for 85,000 households in rural or peri-urban areas of Cambodia.

A US$15 million concessional loan agreement was signed between the Foreign Trade Bank of Cambodia (FTB) and AFD, during a signing ceremony, attended by the Minister of Economy and Finance, along with the ChargĂ© d’Affaires a.i. of the French Embassy in Cambodia.

This fund will facilitate access to financing for small private water and electricity companies in rural and peri-urban areas.

In addition to this loan, the FTB will also receive a grant from the European Union (Asian Investment Facility) of US$4.2 million, stressing that this funding is managed by AFD and will be used to build the capacities of small private operators in the financial and technical fields to facilitate relationships between the bank and these operators.
