Cambodia’s export of
fishing products saw an increase by 200 tons in early this year if compared to
the same period of 2013, according to a report of the Ministry of Agriculture,
Forestry and Fisheries. From January to February 2014, the total export of
fishing products was 2,200 tons, equivalent to 11% of the yearly plan of 20,000
tons, the report said.
During the same
period, authorities have cracked down on 223 cases of illegal fishing (214
cases at fresh-water zones and 9 cases at sea-water zones). The fisheries
sector earned some 564 million Riel (about US$141,000) as income in the first
two months of this year, an increase by over 255 million Riel (about US$64,000)
over the same period last year, the report added.
Cambodia exports its
fishing products to Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Japan,
South Korea, Russia, the United States and Australia.
