Cambodia and Iran were committed to boost the bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy and trade. The commitment was made by H.E. Nguon Nhel, First Vice President of Cambodian National Assembly (NA) and newly-appointed Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Cambodia H.E. Hossein Alvandi Behineh during their meeting yesterday.
In the meeting, both sides
spoke highly of the relationship between the two countries, stressing however
that the bilateral trade and economic cooperation is still limited. They thus
expressed their commitment to boost the cooperation in the two sectors.
H.E. Nguon Nhel informed H.E.
Hossein Alvandi Behineh of the visit by National Assembly President Samdech Heng
Samrin to Iran in the next few months and of Cambodia’s plan to send students
for training on oil and gas in Iran as the construction of oil refinery
factories in Preah Sihanouk and Kampot provinces is almost finished. H.E. Nguon
Nhel also suggested the strengthening of cooperation in the field of tourism
between Cambodia and Iran.
For his part, the Hanoi-based
Iranian diplomat welcomed the upcoming visit of Samdech Heng Samrin to Iran,
saying that it will deepen the relations between the two countries’ legislative
bodies.
H.E. Hossein Alvandi Behineh
further asked Cambodia for more detailed information on its tourism sector in
order to disseminate widely to the Iranian people and to encourage them to
visit Cambodia. Cambodia and the Islamic Republic of Iran established their
diplomatic relations in 1992.
