A South
Korean company on Monday completed a $100,000 energy-efficient street light
initiative in Pursat province, and said it will now invest $100 million to
construct a factory to manufacture the lights.
The Global
Digital Media Group Co. Ltd. installed 200 light-emitting diode (LED) street
lights along 6 km of National Road 5 leading to the provincial capital, Pursat
City, said Suy Sem, minister of mines and energy, at a ceremony to mark the
installation. LED street lights operate on
significantly less wattage than other light systems, and are expected to last
10 to 15 years, cutting costs over time.
CEO of
Global Digital Media would invest $100 million in a factory in Kandal
province’s Takhmao City that would produce LED lights for both local
consumption and export. “For the first phase, we will hire 5,000 to 10,000
people.”
