25 June 2014

Medical military personnel from America, Japan and Australia have begun exchanges with Cambodian medical officers in Sihanoukville.

The Pacific Fleet said the eight-day demonstration of inter-operability was part of the Pacific Partnership humanitarian aid and disaster-relief preparedness mission which started on Thursday last week. "Pacific Partnership gives us an understanding of what resources these countries have," said Royal Australian Navy Lt. Greg Blackburn, a nursing officer and one of nine Australians taking part in the mission this year. "So when we come back for a real disaster relief mission, we have an idea of what they have and how we can work together."

In addition, US and Australian nurses teaching general nursing skills, including physical assessments, observations skills and how to use and read electrocardiogram (ECG) machines. The statement said the Pacific Partnership team also had much to learn from the Cambodians, especially in relation to disaster relief
