Cambodia will be able to
reduce the traffic accident death toll up to 50% by 2020 if drivers strictly
respect the traffic law, Cambodian Minister of Women’s Affairs H.E. Ms. Ing
Kantha Phavy said recently at a seminar on Helmet Wearing and Drink Driving
Awareness.
Traffic accident is a public health
problem in Cambodia, therefore close cooperation between relevant governmental
institutions, development partners and civil society organizations is very
necessary in order to address the problem. In 2013, there were 4,337 cases of
traffic accidents in Cambodia, killing 1,372 people, injuring thousands others,
and costing the country more than US$300 million.
