Cambodian, Thai Companies Reach Joint-Venture Agreement on Rice Mill

Cambodia’s Soma Group and Thailand’s C.P. Intertrade Co., Ltd. reached here this morning a joint-venture agreement to build a rice milling and refining factory in the Cambodian province of Kampong Speu.

Director General of Soma Group signed the US$50 million agreement with Vice Chairman of C.P. Intertrade Co., Ltd. With the capacity of processing some 300,000 tons of rice annually, the factory would begin producing high quality rice from the first trimester of 2015. For Thai part, said his company will bring new techniques to Cambodia for rice milling and refining for export to foreign markets in 100 countries around the world.

Cambodia is committed to exporting at least one million tons of milled by 2015. Last year, the country exported nearly 400,000 tons of milled rice to international markets, up 84 % over 2012
