The Global Environmental
Facility (GEF) funded a new project on “Strengthening the Adaptive Capacity and
Resilience of Rural Communities Using Micro Watershed Approaches to Climate
Change and Variability to attain Sustainable Food Security in Cambodia”.
This project has a total
budget of US$ 5.1 million for a period of 5 years starting immediately upon
signature. H.E. Say Samal underlined that Cambodia has committed to addressing
environmental issues with a strong focus on environmental protection,
biodiversity conservation, and appropriate use of natural resources in order to
ensure social welfare and sustainable socio-economic development in general and
help improve local community’s livelihoods and sustainable food security in
particular.
The objective of the project
is to build the adaptive capacity of rural communities and reduce their
vulnerability to climate change through micro-watershed management and climate
resilient agriculture practice.
